Monday August 31, 2015

Well it has been a very busy August here at Safron Kennels with hunting competitions, agility competitions and a new member joining us.  Piper did her Natural Abilities test in Ottawa for the second time, Ivy had a successful agility competition and we welcomed our newest member Legacy de L'Arpon du Diable, nickname "Ace" all the way from France.   However even with all this activity the dogs still find time play and relax in the yard.

In August we traveled all the way to Ottawa for Piper to take her natural abilities test with N.A.V.D.A. for the second time.  We worked every weekend with Piper to improve her swimming and water work for the test because that is the area that Piper struggled with during her first time.  Her training in the water was going great and seemed to look promising however the day of test she refused to swim...again! She did however get top scores in all other aspects again on the test. Even though Piper did not swim we had an awesome time check out Piper hunting at the test below in the feild.

Ivy went to her third agility competition this month with great success not only did she have some great runs but she got two more Q's.  Ivy got her first Q in a snooker game her first one, only one more to go and she will move up to advance in snooker games.  Her second Q was in gamble games, not only does this mean that Ivy will already move up to advance in gamble but it means that she is already half way to a game starter title. Go Ivy Go! Below see some great photos of Ivy in competition taken by a friend.

This past month we also welcomed our newest member Ace who has joined us all the way from France.  Ace is settling in very well he spends most of his time playing with toys and Ivy and Piper; just like all baby puppies should do.  Play with other dogs helps puppies learn proper socialization and makes it easier for them to get along with other dogs when they are older.  Playing with toys on the other hand helps puppies to learn to share and play with you which helps them stay active and be friendly as an adult. Also playing with toys makes training easier when puppies get older because it will build drive, meaning that your dog will be more willing to do what you want, and you can also use toys as a reward for your dog if your dog loves to play.  Ace loves to play with toys which shows great promise for his drive to work and training when he is older, I know he is a superstar in the making. Ace's leg is healing well and he should get his cast off soon, below see him nicely fitting in.
