History Of The Breed
The Braque Francais type Pyrenees is an old pointer from the Pyrenean region of France, dating back to the 1600's. There are two different types of Braque Francais, the Braque Francais type Pyrenees and the Braque Francais type Gascogne. The Gascogne is a heavier and larger French pointing dog. Over time hunters wanted a lighter more agile dog for hunting. This resulted in the Pyrenees who is smaller and lighter than the original French pointer. The Pyrenees slowly grew in popularity in France. With the Pyrenees becoming the more popular and common breed than the Gascogne. After the Second World War the breed nearly went extinct in France. In order to bring the breed back French breeders went to England stock and slowly the breed has been making a comeback.
