Fall is here, which means a change in the colour of the leaves, cooler weather and our activities are being moved indoors. However we are still keeping active with our Braque Francais in a health clinic, hunting and agility. The fun never stops when you have a Braque Francais type Pyrenees.
The health of our dogs is very important to us here at Safron Kennels and we take as many opportunities to check our dogs health as we can. This past month we took Ivy and Ace to get their eyes and heart checked by specialist veterinarians. Although in the Braque Francais they do not have eye or heart issues that we know of we still like to make sure they are healthy and clear none the less. This was Ivy's update for her eyes and heart and she came back perfect eyes and perfect heart, just like last time. Ivy now has clear hips, eyes and heart we could not ask for anything better health wise out of her.
Ace went to the eye and heart clinic as well and he came back with perfect eyes and heart as well, a great health start for our boy. The next big health test for him is hips however hips cannot be done until after the dogs 2 year birth date so until then he is going to continue to develop.
Piper attended her first FDJ (field dog junior) hunting test with the CKC this past October, it was a really cold day but we were there ready to try out hand at hunting. For the first test in the morning Piper did a great a job and passed with a qualifying with flying colours; I should have never have doubted her hunting abilities. The second test in the afternoon not only did she pass with a high qualifying score she also got first place in her class. Congratulations Pipe! Only one more to pass for the title.
We do agility with our Braque Francais all year round, we find it to be a great outlet for their energy and great training for our dogs. The classes have moved inside until the spring because it's to cold and wet to be doing agility outside any more. Ivy is continuing her training for trialing next summer, we had great success with her last summer and want to keep that up by refining Ivy's skills. Piper is really improving with her agility skills we will keep up her training and hopefully she will be able to trial in the next year or two, she is still young though and gets distracted.
Ace has just started his foundation agility and is doing great! He is very brave for his age and is already sitting on the table and running though the tunnel. Ace has all the marks of being an agility superstar.
